Burr Coffee Grinders
Powerful coffee grinders with burr grinding
A burr coffee grinder will give you some of the best results in grinding coffee. And a burr coffee grinder will enable you to prepare coffee beans for a wide variety of uses, including coffee filter machines, cafetieres and espresso makers. A burr coffee grinder works differently to a blade grinder. The burrs will "crush" the coffee beans between 2 discs or wheels (sometimes also conical grinding elements) and leave you with the perfect coffee, evenly ground, fresh and full of flavour.

About Burr Coffee Grinders
Many coffee experts agree that a burr grinder will give better results for ground coffee than a blade grinder. As the name suggests, a blade grinder simply chops the coffee beans with fast spinning blades. For some, this may result in a less than even grind, not smooth or fine enough for espresso making, for example. However, a burr grinder operates in a different manner, pressing the beans between two steel burrs, which should result in a fine and even grind. You may come across the term "Conical Burrs" also. This simply refers to the shape of the burrs - the parts of the grinder that press the coffee beans. Conical burrs are coned shaped, which means they a set at a slight angle to each other and are able to press or grind the beans more comprehensively. A burr coffee grinder will need more power in order to grind the beans, compared to a blade grinder. Therefore you are likely to see that many burr grinders are quite large compared to other types, simply because they need a powerful motor to operate them.

Coffee experts agree that a burr coffee grinder, and in particular a conical burr coffee grinder will give better results than a blade coffee grinder. However, this doesn't mean everyone needs to buy a burr grinder. Not at all. Firstly, they aren't cheap. Secondly, perhaps you only intend to use your grinder every now and again. If so, why have a larger machine taking up room in your kitchen, when a smaller, blade grinder would work well. Blade grinders are perfectly fine for most coffee grinding jobs, and are especially suited for making coarser ground coffee as used for cafetieres, for example.
